Benton C Bainbridge participated in Sonic Acts 2003 edition. Entitled Sonic Light, the festival included Maryanne Amacher and Francisco López, Sue Costabile and Naut Humon in several venues in the center of Amsterdam.
Bainbridge’s ‘remix’ of the TRIGGERS a/v synthesis series – “Here, Shimmering… Gone” screened at Cinema de Balie outdoors for the duration of the festival. “Here, Shimmering… Gone” had previously been presented as live visual performance at Transcinema (NYC/San Francisco) and The Kitchen (NYC).
Bainbridge conducted a workshop, teaching simple techniques for analog video synthesis using inexpensive technology. “Try This at Home” was part of a day-long series of presentations on the theme of visual music.
Bainbridge performed realtime media at Paradiso with Yasunao Tone and Venetian Snares. Unfortunately, customs prevented Benton from using his modified video hardware, so he ‘conducted’ the technicians controlling the switching gear.
Later that year, Bainbridge reprised his performance with Venetian Snares in New York City with his full kit. Above is a short sample.
In 2005, Woody Vasulka screened a longer version of this video at ZKM (Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Germany):
»Video in Twilight. Analog of no Return« wird Woody Vasulka Arbeiten von Ralph Hocking, Matthew Schlanger und Benton C Bainbridge zeigen.
